We played a pretty wonderful show with all of our friends at the Skihouse a few weeks back, and thankfully our pal Brad Krischel filmed a lot of it and put together this awesome video!

We're taking a little time right now so Chris can sort out his Antartica adventure, but we are also working on finishing up a lot of recordings we've done over the past year to hopefully release them as a full length LP! So, if you want to help us with that, we'd love you forever.

You can now get our new EP in physical form via a cassette from Skihouse Tapes, which is a split with our friend Rob Jacobs. Get one, they look cool! Oh yeah and it has 2 more songs that aren't available anywhere in the digital world, we recorded them in Chicago on our most recent tour. You can still get the digital version on our bandcamp.

New EP Release & Tour

We played in St. Louis this weekend, it was fun, our friend Brad Krischel took these pictures.

We are having an EP release show for the new EP on Thursday, June 30th at Hangar 9. Our friends in Rob Jacobs Ensemble, and PUJOL from Nashville, will be playing too. Today is my birthday. I'm sitting in my room listening to this old pressing of The Birth Of Cool by Miles Davis (just realized how funny that is..) that I got for really cheap on Record Store Day, and I feel pretty nice and want to tell you about some cool stuff we are doing.

We're playing two shows on Friday. They will both be pretty cool, you should come. We will have nice prints of this poster available, drawn by our friend Natalie Miller. Here is info on the first show and here is info on the second.

We've made some new recordings. They are almost ready for you to hear them. They are trapped in this box for now but you will hear them soon. Promise.

Mary, Chris, and Zach are going to see the Arcade Fire tonight. Marcus and I are going to stay home and play Dizzy Gillespie songs with our friend Kevin and maybe have a little party. See you on Friday, keep your fingers crossed it doesn't rain.

We've just added a last minute show, this Friday at the Skihouse with our friends from Nashville JEFF The Brotherhood and Diarrhea Planet, and our friends from across the street Staring Problem. We love playing at Skihouse it is where we practice, and we love all of those bands, and we love you so come out!

It's been almost a year since we've messed around with this thing, and a lot of stuff has happened since then. Mary and Marcus graduated from school and got crazy jobs doing awesome things, Zeke built a cabin and is going back to school, Chris and David did a lot of weird stuff.. but we'll be checking in here more often, and if you really want to follow what's going on you can look at our facebook page because we update it more. We've got a whole bunch of new songs, and we've started working on a number of recordings and videos but we haven't finished them yet. Days 14-18

Woahhh the last few days were crazy, so we didn't really get round to bloggin'.

Asheville was way beautiful and fun and we stayed in the amazing home of Kim from Pilgrim and Nathanael, where this little monster kept us up all night:

and I found a long lost relative.

Then we played the wild Temptation Club in Murfreesboro with some cool bands from Chicago/Louisville, and caught up with Megan in Nashville. After a stop at Waffle House, off to Bloomington it was, where a truckload of our friends showed up and things got crazy. We played a fun house show with Kentucky Nightmare and Simon drove his car into our van, I am still not sure if it was an accident or not.

Woke up early and hauled azz to Chicago, finally got there after a stop in scenic Gary IN and at that McDonalds in the middle of the toll road. Played in Record Breakers which was fun and ate hot dogs and my bass fell off in the last song. Then went to Sultan's Market mmmmm and played a fun loft show w/ Tin Tin Can, The Distractions and the lovely Black Fortys.

Then ended things like every tour should end, with a stop at Cozy Corner.

Don't get the Triple Decker Club Sandwich, it is too big to fit in your mouth.

Tour was rad. Being home is weird.

i had a conversation about nighty night recently with a group of people. we all came to the realization that knowing these people intimately or not, their music brings goosebumps and wet undies to all that hear. i was really surprised cause i just figured i was alone in this and probably felt so in awe of Mary that i wanted to shrink her and keep her in a music box that i would carry everywhere. so last night when they played in Bloomington the audience was equally as "moved" by their music...which is crazy cause not only were these people complete strangers, this music was new to their ears...and dey fuckin felt dat sheit.

Another record store? Hardly. We went to Static Age Records and Voltage Records (and if we're lucky we will go to Harvest Records tomorrow.. shhh..) and Zach and I got some sweet shit. Flower Travellin' Band, Ghana Soundz Vol. 2, and David Bowie / Hunky Dory for me.. Dock Boggs, Gal Costa, and a Camera Obscura record for Zeke. Good day. Marcus' Otis Redding search has gone on unfulfilled though.

In other news, I got possibly the sweetest Carhart ever today as well. Pic soon. I've been eying this boombox at static age pretty hard too..

Oh yeah, and the Bobo show tonight has been moved to Static Age Records, and the Murfreesboro show tomorrow has been moved from Scotty's to The TEMPTATION CLUB 8pm (2404 Halls Hill Pike). Also the house show in Bloomington is at Bar None (110 N Maple) w/ Kentucky Nightmare & Dust From 1000 years.

Thanks to Lauren and Patrick and Katie and Paisley and everyone in Knoxville, that was fun!

Tennessee Take ONE

Hello out there! Knoxville is cool. Our show last night was fun. We played at this old house called the Birdhouse with two other bands. We met a lot of cool people. We got a little drunk. We stayed with a lawyers daughter named Kate. Chris as Zach slept on the floor head to head and we stayed up laughing til pretty late at night. Marcus said it was "like a 5th grade slumber party". We woke up and grocery shopped and chris gave a homeless man money while drinking a beer in the kroger parking lot. (chris was drinking the beer). THEN we drove to Asheville! We parked the van, went to

ANOTHER RECORD STORE,

then some people ate indian food. Our Asheville show got moved from the BoBo Gallery to Static Age Records down the street. We're drinking beer in a coffee shop now. The record store has a back room place for shows, w/ movie theater seats!

Marcus made this list that he taped up on the Babe Wall of shows we have already played, and shows we have yet to play. The second column is getting shorter. It's crazy that so much of tour is behind us. Its exciting that we're almost home. I don't wanna go to school Tuesday. My tummy hurts a little. I hope this show is fun- i think it will be. And this town is beautiful and fun. I've always wanted to visit. It's cool that we have gotten to visit so many cool cities and towns, and get right to the cool stuff right away. More later.

p.s. Zach and Chris actually slept next to each other like 7 or 8 nights in a row. Twins!

Southern Force: Ménage à trois

Last night was real cheesy. We played a cool show at The Elbo Room in Columbia, SC. We played with our friend Ryan's 2 bands Pilgrim and Lulo. We spent much time in the green room downstairs stocked with Budweiser. After we played our show, we went back downstairs and there were 3 huge Reggae men smoking blunts drinking our comp beer. Zach talked basketball with them and the upstairs bartender gave us free shots. They liked us! Then we were escorted to another bar called The Whig which was basically just a carpeted basement where we drank for free and were eventually pawned off onto a nice girl who let us stay at her house. Oh lord. Zach and Chris smoked more cheesy that night "than (we) have consecutively in the past two years", and slept in the same bed for the 4th night in a row. Guapo molested Marcus, and left his hairy trail all over the van. This morning we escaped alive, ate some cool sex food at a diner, and drove for 6 hours or something- partially through the snow covered mountains- the first white we've seen this Christmas!

We're all getting pretty cracked out. Tour is a dream. Every new city we enter blurs the memory of the last and in the end it will all be a big pile of stories and scraps of paper and beer cans. It's cool to get drunk for free every night. It's cool to be in a vulnerable situation every night wondering where you're going to sleep- begging audience members through a microphone. WHY does everybody have WEIRD pets? We've also been talking in various accents a lot.

Seriously though, Zach and Chris are in love with each other. They've purchased a few more items for their matching wardrobes. They hold hands in the shower.. you know.

Day 10, 11, 12

Saturday we woke up and got in the van and drove ALL DAY. Most of us ate subway at like 10am. Sleeping in the van, whatever. We finally got to Gainesville, FL and played at a pretty cool venue called The Atlantic. I got sick, so I slept in the van. I thought I was gonna get kidnapped by the crazed florida college hoodlums goin wild on the strip. We slept at Eric and Stephanie's (of Morningbell) house. They had some really cool pets and shit. They gave us bagels then we drove Sunday morning to Savannah, GA where we played at SCAD's (Savannah College of Art and Design) student radio station. Some of you listened. If anyone cares- I think the recording and strange interview is on their website (scadradio.org). Then we went to The Sentient Bean where we set up, ate some sweet hummus plate, drank a LOT of coffee out of this HUGE coffee cup, and played a caffeinated, non-alcoholic, sunday night show. It was pretty fun though, we made a couple friends, met up with Ryann and Jack from Carby, went out to some weird bar called MacDonald's, ate some weird giant pizza slices freshly baked by a real live Juggalo, and then drank beer at Ryann & Jack's WARM house. I'm a freak.

Now it's Monday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY! Marcus is reading his new novel (Kite Runner), Zach is doing our laundry and playing in the park, Chris is looking for JOSIE!!!! HELP FIND THAT GIRL. MEDIUM SIZED CHOCOLATE LAB CALL 618 525 1685!!! David is drinking a beer and kickin' ass, and Mary is writing this sexy blog. My current thoughts: need to charge phone. want to take shower. can't wait til bloomington. marcus and david and mary are HUNGRY. SUPER pumped about clean clothes- david's on his last pair of clean socks. Mary and zach have been doing laundry in bathtubs. it's not a true clean though. "it's only like 70% clean" -David Allen.

Before we left New Orleans we stopped at Domino Sound and holy shit it was awesome. We had to wait in the van for an hour for it to open but it was worth it. Zach and I (David) freaked out and got some sweet records.

Now we are in Baton Rouge and are listening to them and it rules. We also finally got to listen to the Follow That Bird! record we got.

Day 7&8

After 7 shows straight, we've had the past two days off before we play 10 (possibly 11..) more shows straight. We've stayed in this swank hotel, la belle maison, in downtown New Orleans for the past two days courtesy of my grandpa (thank you!!) and we've have been relaxing hard. We explored New Orleans pretty well, and now we are hanging out with Sarah Jackson in Baton Rouge, drinking lots of coffee and watching Batman Returns. Pretty okay.

We drank too many margaritas at Juan's Flying Burrito..

Visited the St. Louis Cathedral..

And found lots of cool old stuff..

Most notably this portrait of Zach that we thought had been lost, but is actually residing in a GLBT bookstore just outside the French Quarter. Lookin good dude.

Okay okay okay. We've been partyin' instead of bloggin', wouldn't you? We played in Lafayette and to be honest we were expecting a let down (monday night, no local band, etc..) but shit got WILD. Thanks to Katie, Mitchell, Steve, Rat Cat Double Parakeet, the oil rig guy, and the Tennessee Williams girls for treating us right. Lafayette is cool. Also thanks to Jared who let us stay in his beautiful house and probably shouldn't have. He was awesome, and his mystery roommate may be a robot.

Then we drove through the swamps where it seems like everyone (but us of course) was totally drunk, and finally made it to New Orleans. We have all been practicing our Southern accents, and Zach has been coaching us.

Oh yeah, Marcus and I (David) went swimming. Outside. And it ruled.

Tour Date Updates

Three new dates added.. we will now be playing at Kara's Sound House (1150 Park Bvld.) in Baton Rouge LA on Friday the 8th, at the Elbo Room in Columbia SC on Monday the 11th, and at Scotty's in Murfreesboro TN on Thurs the 14th. The shows have been going really well so far, thanks to everyone who has helped us out! We're off to Lafayette to eat some crawdads.

Day 4

Austin! We played two shows in Austin last night and it was rad. The first one was a Trailer Space records, it was a cool place and really fun show. Hung out with JJ and Lew and a guy from Alton IL and met lots of nice people.

We played with Follow That Bird! and they were awesome.

They are short so it is hard to see..

We also played with Magic Jewels who had a badass van.

Then we played at Hole In The Wall with Mary's cousin's band, Puff Puff and the Receivers. It was a lot of fun too, hung out with family and some new friends.

Day 3

We're in Texas and it rules. It smells like fire and it sounds like we're in outer space. Drinkin' Lone Star n shit. We played at Rubber Gloves in Denton last night and it was fun, cool venue and lots of nice people.

Then we tried to drive to Austin after the show, but I had caught some intense stomach virus and we had to stop after about 45 min, and I puked in the lobby of a comfort inn. 36 fucked up hours later I am finally feeling like a human again, and cannot wait to eat something.

Day 1&2: Hot Springs

Hot Springs fucking rules. Seriously. Sooooo cool! Played at Maxine's, which turned out to be one of the nicest venues with the nicest/coolest staff we've ever played at. They gave us two free pizzas and some sweet beer, both of which we enjoyed in the VIP room while sipping bottles of free Mountain Valley Spring Water behind a velvet rope, safe from the presence of the "little people."

The owners, Kevin and Agnes, stood by the edge of the stage during both our and Bandit Sound's sets and was way into both of us. Kevin collects vinyl from touring bands that play Maxine's and puts them in a crate he plans to give his three year old son when he turns 12. So, little Konrad will be listening to "belle" in 2019... hope he likes it.

Also...

Hung out with Bill aka Billy Spunk of the Blue Meanies and slept on his floor, held our hands in the scalding hot spring water and learned the history of Hot Springs at an old bathhouse that's been converted into a museum.

All said and done one of the coolest little cities we've ever played.

Belated Tour Rap-Up

Even though we've been back for a month and a half, it seems like we aught to have some parting thoughts on the experience of our first tour... here are some of the highlights for me.

It seemed more like a wine blind and wild road trip than a "tour" in the conventional sense of the word. The shows were fun and "successful" (whatever that's supposed to mean), but the trip was much more than a collection of shows.

In three weeks we played 11 shows in 10 cities, drove exactly 7,601 miles and managed to buy only three or four tanks of gas out of pocket... we only got into one fight.

We watched a man covered in streaky white face paint writhe screaming on the floor of a Best Western Barroom in Tuscon wearing nothing but a peculiar object strapped over his dangling genitalia. Then, we escaped from a tambourine playing woman's house for San Diego at 7:00am because a certain band mate (who shall remain nameless) woke remorseful next to an author with wild curly black hair and futuresque shaved sideburns.

We chanted like pseudo shamans in the middle of a drain pipe beneath California's Highway 1. We sat on a redwood tree trunk throne and climbed a rocky mountain river bed. On Pismo Beach we drank 9 bottles of wine and swam next to naked in the freezing Pacific while West Coast hillbillies drove by in dune buggies and ATVs.

We crept beneath underpasses and through wire clipped fences in Oakland and smoked joints on the sidewalk in San Fransisco. We watched seals play in the deadly undertow off the black sands of Shelter Cove and cooked corn and bratwursts on a ramshackle grill built of sticks and stones.
I screamed at friends and strangers on a residential street in Olympia, throwing beer in their eyes and calling them assholes... some of them didn't know why... I apologized. All was well.

We drank wine, slept in tents and watched the sunrise for more than 7,000 miles. People were good to us and we thank them for that. Since we've come back, two far flung friends have visited and we look forward to sharing more of them with the city and the people we love.

We had to let our Lizard go yesterday. As you can see, we were/are very distressed about it.

We picked up Tracy and made the loooooooong drive to Salt Lake City. Driving the Oregon trail gave the game a whole new meaning. We are staying with the wonderful Peter Densmore in SLC, eating amazing blueberry pancakes his roomate Andrea made us. Then off to Omaha it is.

We love Olympia house shows. Some highlights of the show last night:

-A business woman farted on us. Zach said ew.

-Bands with songs about David Duchovney, face paint, and "I'm gonna pluck out you're eye and feed it to the raven.."

-A poop leak in the ceiling.

-Brent getting pulled over on his bike by a cop while carrying an 18pk of Ranier.

-Pillow fist pumps.

-Reconnected with Freddy and it felt soo good.

-Slept on a baseball diamond.

-The tiny braid.

-Another subway pit stop.

Dear Diary, today is Thursday. We are in portland today. we spent the night in Olympia last night but drove back:

So we drove to olympia yesterday and got some foods got sweet deal on PBRs at Quality Burrito. Got to Freddy's house where our house show was, watched a few bands... they were cool! Drank Renier beer, and played music for the most excited of joggies we've seen yet!! They danced and sang along and clapped their hands. then we sat in a circle and played games. Everyone got wasted and we spent the night in Freddy's room!! He was SUCH a host; offering the touring band his BED, letting us sleep in, and providing a continental breakfast- old bread and popsicles! DAMN. Then we craved subway, ate it on the way home, wrote them a letter, and now they are going to fund our tour if we endorse five dollar footlongs at our shows, so natalie's sewing david a sandwich costume. We are now biting eachother like vampires because we are thirsty. Tonight we're playing at the chaos cafe and its gonna be FUCKED UP. Maybe though. Chris has a reverse eyelash, and "All i ever wanted was....."

Somewhere along the way we picked up our record in LA but then camped on the beach so they got all sandy and fucked. also, when we were stamping them in oakland they got BBQ ash. number 21 got messed up so it has a special message, and number 7 has cat hair from Louise. sorry.

Hello dearest readers,

Thus far we have managed to maintain energy and enthusiasm. We are in San Diego and having tons of awesome fun and eating some seriously sweet food. Today we drive North on Highway 1 which runs right along the ocean. We plan on camping somewhere between here and San Fran. On the way we are picking up our new records that we haven't even heard yet and hanging out on the beach!

Our shows have been good so far and the landscape has been incredibly beautiful. Driving over the mountains in southern California was bitchin. We pretty much felt like the Flintstones. I have been filming a lot of what's been going on and I think that we might try to load some videos on here before the tour's end.

Anyway, we're about to hit the road. Stay tuned for more sweet news and pics.

tour blog-first weekend

Hi, we are going to try to have a running travel blog of our tour, so people can know what kind of shenanigans the gang is getting into. So every few days hopefully we'll have something up.

We left carbondale at around 7 p.m. on friday night with full stomachs and roared into the humid, purple dusk. We promptly fell asleep, or at least most of us did. Past the Missouri Ozarks, into dusty Oklahoma in the night and through the scrub plains of Texas with it's cattle standing in the morning sun, we finally made it to New Mexico. After 26 hours of not sleeping or eating, we stopped in a small town on route 66 that looked pretty much the same as it did back in the 50s except decrepit and neglected. Bread and turkey, pepperjack cheese, carrots for lunch in a city park. After streching and playing on the playground equipment we hit the road.

We drove into some intense storms that didn't last very long, you could see them coming a long ways off, huge mountains of dark clouds. The weather the whole drive was pleasant, surprisingly cool sometimes. Later that afternoon we stopped in Alberquerke to see the "old town". It was tourist central and we were bored with that so we left. There is a shady park there that the old men sit in and look at the pretty girls as they walk by.

Finally at around 8p.m. we stopped in Gallup, New Mexico for much needed rest. We decided to splurge and got a hotel room. We made a synchronized swimming routine in the pool, sat in the hot tub, and sat in the bath tub with the shower running. We were all pretty much pooped and fell asleep early. Next morning we hit up the continental breakfast, piled in the van and crossed into arizona. The hills slowly became less green and less round. The soil became sandier and rocks became redder. We passed through the Navajo reservation, with broken jalopy cars, weather beaten sheds, clothes on the line. Most had tires on their roofs, and we didn't know why.

Went to Petrified Forest National Park and got ripped off buying overpriced soda. The park was amazing!! Huge vistas and expansive views of purple, red sunset rocks and shadowy mountains in the distance. Enormous piles of clouds ambled by with bright blue sky background. Jasper Forest is an ancient stand of trees that were buried in volcanic ash eons ago and eventually when the hills eroded enough they fell into this valley that was chock full of huge petrified trees. At least it was before the railroad was built nearby in 1882. Pretty soon tons of the trees were being hauled off by settlers and being sold or blown up with dynomite to try to extract crystals from inside.

Ate lunch in the stands at a baseball diamond in Winslow, Arizona to keep out of the rain. More turkey sandwichs, chips and salsa, hummus. Accidently went to Flagstaff because of wrong address in the GPS but turned out great because Flagstaff is a pretty cool town. Surronded by mountains and pine trees, with a nice atmosphere. We walked around, went to thrift store or two. Marcus bought some sweet shades. A bluegrass group was playing in the town square. We went to a brewery and bought some pints. Driving through the mountains on the way to Phoenix was AMAZING!!! The rain stopped and the sun came with late afternoon sideglow on the mountains. We saw a rainbow. The air smelled and felt like honey. Huge views of meadows and valleys. Huge cactus and palm trees!!! We rolled into phoenix feeling great. Ate some burgers and veggies which were awesome and are staying in a house with a pool. Sitting around under palm trees and taking it easy. We are playing our first show tonight in Tuscan, and the next day in San Diego. I think all of us are itching to play. Hope all is well where you are.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO much news!

Hope everyone on the west coast is ready! We're going to swim and hike and eat DQ and drink homemade mead and HAVE SO MUCH FUN playing music for you!

Here's what's new in our world:
1. We're getting some sweet shirts made! Bunch of colors.

2. The test press of belle, our upcomming 7" release on Let's Pretend Records, is almost ready and we'll have a limited number of them to sell to folks on tour before the "official" release in June.

3. We hand painted/printed a bunch of sweet CD cases and will be selling super cheap CDRs of the belle 7" for those of you who fear analog sound.

4. We've been writing awesome new material at a feverish pace.

5. We've all developed diabetes from excessive DQ sunday and blizzard consumption. Seriously, half of David's diet is DQ soft serve. HE NEEDS HELP!
